I was born on the Isle of Lewis in 1976 and after a short time in the Scottish Infantry, I moved to Aberdeen and did my B.A. Hons degree in Fine Art. After living and working in Denmark and Glasgow for several years, I have returned home to the Isle of Lewis where I am now based. My work is held in various private collections in Denmark, Hong Kong, Israel, and the USA. In 2009, I was one of only three Scottish artists to feature in the BP Portrait Prize Award exhibition and had a three page feature/interview in Artists and Illustrator magazine. I was also the Scottish representative for the Mead Johnson International Exhibition in Evansville, Indiana, USA.As my work is based around photorealism, I find it increasingly important not to limit my subject matter. I find that I can push myself and my work much further by painting different subjects under different conditions. I always strive for my work to remain fresh by developing it and constantly moving it forward.I have a very keen interest in contrasts between the deliberate nature of photorealism and the more accidental side of expressionism and how the two can work together on the same canvas. How a run of paint can transform a technically painted portrait or seascape or how a doodled character can interact with a photorealistic object, it fascinates me how these opposites can create something "else", something new. I think it is very important for my work to create emotion and "feeling" for the viewer, to be able to work on different levels and not just the visual.2001 - Spirit of Life, Cafe Mekur, Copenhagen2002 - 2 Man Show, Scotlandart.com, Glasgow - Glasgow Art Fair, with Scotlandart.com2003 - Glasgow Art Fair, with Scotlandart.com - The Affordable Art Fair-London, with Scotlandart.com 2004 - Group exhibition- Scotlandart.com, Glasgow - Commissioned presentation to the First Minister of Scotland - Scotland on Sunday Home supplement2005 - Dublin Art Fair with Scotlandart.com - Group show, Scotlandart.com, Edinburgh2006 - Group show, Karen Taylor Gallery, London - Group show, Scotlandart.com, Glasgow - One man show, Scotlandart.com, Edinburgh2007 - Spring Selection show, Scotlandart.com, Glasgow - The Affordable Art Fair-London, with Scotlandart.com - House of Beauly, Ealain Gallery - Loch Lomond Golf Club - Private event, Ealain Gallery - Barclays Scottish Open - Loch Lomond, Ealain Gallery 2008 - The Affordable Art Fair-London, with Scotlandart.com - Glasgow Art Fair, with Scotlandart.com - Homes and Interiors Magazine - Six Figures, Scotlandart.com, Edinburgh - The Affordable Art Fair-Amsterdam, with Scotlandart.com - Edinburgh Art Fair2008 - Glasgow Herald article2008 - Short listed for Standard Chartered Commission 20082009 - Short listed for Mead Johnson Nutritional Commission USA2009 - Scottish representative for Johnson Nutritional International Exhibition2009 - London Art Fair 2009 - BP Portrait Prize Exhibition, National Portrait Gallery, London2010 - Summer Exhibition, Blackheath Gallery2010 In Your Face, Blackheath Gallery
