Originally from Lancashire Julie Coulter started painting in her early childhood. She is a full time, professional figurative and portrait Artist whom is self-taught, specializing in oils and photography.
Her figurative work explores many deep thoughts and feelings regarding all matters in life and are manipulated by both natural light and shadows. This in turn emphasises the mood, emotion and atmosphere of her painting which entices the viewer into the piece and implores them to be as intrigued as possible to the thoughts of the subject. Julie strives to reflect an honest and detailed representation in her painting by capturing the personality of the sitter in a portrait.
She takes inspiration from a love of music, theatre and poetry as she is inspired by everyone she meets; as we all have a story. A face shown on the outside can be different to what's on the inside and Julie likes to tap into this notion bringing it to the surface. She states “In my work it feels I'm painting a diary of stories.”
Julie’s work has successfully exhibited in Scotland and all around the UK.
