Jackie Roberts (b.1962)
Jackie Roberts lives on the Maltese island of Gozo and in Scotland. She produces art in metal from a small workshop (called zig zag lines) in Gozo. Inspired to change her life and work seven years ago after working professionally in education, public relations and international development; she joined a group of women welders called the 'Arcangels' who graduated from Edinburgh's Telford College.

Jackie is inspired by the natural world, particularly the sea, and the fusion of different cultures and traditions. Incorporating various metals (e.g. copper, mild steel, brass, stainless steel), glass, stone, wood, found and recycled materials she makes figures, masks, mirrors, sculptural wall hangings, funky jewellery, and functional craft work - wind vanes, candle holders, lighting, door handles etc. Using the techniques of thermal cutting, welding, shaping, brazing, grinding, polishing and heating she brings out the natural properties and colours of the metals. She is particularly known for her realistic metal fish and other marine inspired creations. Jackie has recently started collaborating with her father Derek R. Roberts, a painter, in creating unusual mixed media works.

Jackie regularly exhibits in Scotland and her work is shown in galleries, restaurants and in group exhibitions throughout Malta and Gozo. She undertakes commissions and her work is collected by visitors from all over the world. Jackie is a member of the Malta Society of Arts, Manufacturers and Commerce. She also teaches artistic metalwork to adults at workshops and summer schools in Malta and the UK.
