selected artist: Finch Brough
Curriculum Vitae After studying at Art College for three years I worked in London as a photographers assistant returning to painting after several years. I gather my subject matter from a variety of sources, mainly photos (my own and some other photographers) and some life, using an amalgamation of images to create the pictures. Some of the images are on paper but I also work on canvas. I start with a very detailed charcoal pencil drawing with subsequent layers consisting of washes of acrylic, oils, wax, Charbonnel printing ink, etc., to build up a lush and impasto surface (sometimes scratching into the surface). Selected exhibitions: The Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts 140th Annual Exhibition, McLellan Galleries, Glasgow University Gallery, University of Northumbria, Newcastle The Gold Gallery, Edinburgh Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery, Carlisle; James Rennie Fine Art Auction Upfront Gallery, Nr. Hutton in the Forest, Cumbria Some comments about my work:
“Finch Brough’s intense and darkly atmospheric works offer up a potent mixture of themes – innocence, desire, violence and death all surface in uneasy combinations to challenge the viewer.”
