“Flowers mean different things to different people; to some they are trophies to decorate their dwelling , to some they are buttonholes for their conceits, to botanists they are species and tabulated categories; to bees of coarse they are honey- to me they are the secret of the cosmos” Winifred Nicholson.


I paint flower “portraits” much as a portrait artist will paint heads and figures, and through them I feel I express something fundamental about life and living.

I love flowers; their crazy, wonderful, endlessly different colours and forms. Images of different flowers seem to me to reflect many moods and characters, both light and dark , living and dying. I seek to express my sense of their varying subtlety or boldness of character through composition, colour, scale and paint. I enjoy playing with scale, sometimes to triffid like proportions, enlarging my representations of flowers to reflect my sense of their energy and abundance.

After a long departure I returned to painting in 2001. I began exhibiting my work in 2003.

Education BA Joint Hons: Art and Art History at Goldsmiths College, London, 1989-1992.
