DESCRIPTION OF WORK
My work is mainly inspired by landscape and seascape, particularly around the west coast of Scotland. The changing light and atmospheric effects have provided endless ideas and I seek to capture something of that. Recurrent themes include dramatic effects of the weather, and mountains and shoreline below brooding skies. I simplify compositions and lines often creating a semi-abstraction. My palette is strongly coloured with wide tonal range, principally in oils. The physical act of painting is important to me with paint surface a prominent element as I strive for simplicity of form and overall unity. The paintings I have recently completed attempt to envelop the viewer in the prevailing atmosphere.

1999 MA (HONS) FINE ART
University of Edinburgh & Edinburgh College of Art
A five year degree with art history and practical art equally
weighted.
UNIVERSITY Principal Honours Options: C 20th British Art, C 20th Scottish
Art, Scottish Art In The Enlightenment 1707-1843 and Greek Art and Archaeology.
Architectural History and Philosophy of Art to honours level.
COLLEGE Drawing & Painting Dept – Work in various media including printmaking and photography.
