Professional Experience

Artist
I have been working as an independent professional artist since my graduation. I have gained experience in exhibiting with a variety of galleries within Scotland and have also shown work in many Art Fairs around Britain and the U.S.A. I am a figurative painter, using oil paint in a unique, loose and free-flowing way to produce paintings based on self-portraiture, which represent the grace and allure of the female form. I have experienced great success as regards sales, selling an average of 75% of my work. By gaining insight into how an exhibition is organised I have been able to initiate various independently run exhibitions. I also receive a lot of privately commissioned work, ranging from portraits of children, portraits for family collections and commissions of some of my self-portraits made to the clients specifications. Working on a one to one basis with clients when preparing for a private commission has also helped develop my people skills when operating in a professional capacity.

Teaching
I have also gained experience teaching at the South Bridge Community Centre where I developed and tutored a programme of Art and Design lessons for 14-18 year olds. The classes are aimed to give youngsters an opportunity to experiment with a variety of media through disciplines such as fashion design, figure drawing, sculpture, print and textiles. The course also includes a final exhibition where students are taught how to present their work for public display.

Other work
I have also started a small business with a friend, which we launched in December 2003. Our company is called “bo-k” and we specialise in handmade bags and accessories, which we sell through Art and Craft Fairs and hope to sell through boutiques in the near future.
