My work is driven by the awe inspiring power and presence of natural forms and landscapes vast natural spaces sculpted by huge geological and elemental processes.
I am interested in the continuous shaping of natural forms and the spaces in between, an ongoing process, time built layers holding secrets and clues to past times, past lives.

These processes are reflected in my work building layers of tone, colour and texture with paint, ink, collage and sometimes textured materials, such as sacking and sand to create a layered physicality.

Places I see and experience are absorbed into my visual knowledge and find their way into my work over time. Dumfriesshire continues to have a big impact on my visual knowledge and subconscious which is worked into my textured, layered landscapes. Travels to new locations are always invigorating and start a chain of exciting visual possibilities.

As an artist I strive for a complex simplicity works that show a harmony of layered searching a conclusion full of possibilities.

The art of Richard Diebenkorn, Fred Williams, Alberto Burri, Antoni Tapies and Prunella Clough have particularly influenced my work.
