Mairi Aitken graduated from Glasgow School of Art with a degree in Drawing and Painting. She has taught art in both England and Scotland. Being an artist member of The Glasgow Society of Women Artists and The Paisley Art Institute, she exhibits regularly with both organizations. She is also a past president of The Glasgow Society of Women Artists.
Her work has been acquired by schools, councils, The Royal Bank of Scotland and is in private collections throughout the U.K., Europe and the U.S.Mairi’s arttwork is mostly figurative, based largely on scenes recorded whilst holidaying abroad, with particular emphasis on strong light, shade and people going about their everyday lives. Although Mairi is happy with all forms of media, she concentrates mainly on acrylic at present.
